Sons of Sun - Kaizoku Kid no Bouken

Hey guys! Here’s the first of hopefully many hard to find albums released on the Blue J-Radio blog. I’ll want to do this at least once a week, and I already have the next album uploaded.

This is called The Adventure of the Pirate Kid by the band Sons of Sun. Made in the early 70s, this is very much an old-school Peanut’s album, except that except for being jazz-influenced, it’s more acoustic and soft-rock influenced. Really fun, laid back, slightly nostalgic stuff! Highly recommended!

I’m not sure what to feature for this Sunday’s show. I’ll either re-do my Ryuichi Sakamoto set, feature classical music, or something else.

Also, I found out from JPHIP that they’re going to air a Michael Jackson special around early July on Japanese TV. I’m going to check out Youtube for more info on that. I’ve been wanting to put some Michael Jackson covers for the coming show.

Named after a section from the novel, The Tale of 1,001 seconds. This band has been around for 25+ years, and they have released a ton of albums. Most of the stuff featured here is 80s new-wave/experimental style, with some harder rock stuff. Really inventive and creative band!!!

When I was looking for music for the awesome Ryuichi Sakamoto special I did not too long ago, I found this gem:

This session artist and two-time album maker did a cover of a YMO track! What made this awesome is that he added lyrics. And not just any lyrics, cheesy 80s lyrics!

Watch the man take his kinda-hot ambiguously asian/african-american date to the club, play a set, dance mediocre, put her in a cab, and then retreat into the crime infested back alleys of New York.

Clapton also did a cover of Greg Phillanges cover, with the same cheesy lyrics. Wow.

This edition of Blue J Radio is in tribute to Kiyoshiro Imawano.  I heard a little

bit of him when I did the 60s/70s show, and featured one of the songs in tonight’s

set. It came as a shock to me when I found out about two-three weeks later that

he passed away from throat cancer. So, I decided to look deeper into his work.
